A special festival, Noche de San Juan, will be celebrated in Spain on the night of 23-24 June 2024. Of course, this is also celebrated in Malaga. During this evening, people party with friends and family to celebrate the beginning of summer.
Traditions
A number of customs accompany this fiesta to celebrate it in a traditionally Spanish way. The important thing is that at midnight, you take a dip in the sea. This is good for your health for the year ahead. In addition, bonfires will be lit at designated spots. If you want to forget certain moments or things, you can write them on a note and throw them into the fire. In 2023, as a playful action, the club logo of Málaga CF, the football club, was set on fire. That year, the football club had been relegated from the 2nd tier to the 3rd tier and fans were not satisfied with the situation within the club. By setting fire to the logo made of wood, fans wanted to let it be known to forget about that season and look beyond it.
Beaches
In Málaga, Noche de San Juan is celebrated on several beaches. ‘La Malagueta’ beach is the most popular one. There is a large stage where music is played for the audience. The place is always busy so remember to be on time. Other popular beaches are ‘La Misericordia’ and ‘San Andrés’, located in Huelin, west of the city centre. Most bonfires can be found here as these are more wider beaches. East of Málaga you will find the fishing villages of Pedregalejo and El Palo. Here you will find more families and small stages. For a more local feel, this is a must visit.
