A Festival with a Female Perspective
One of the most remarkable features of this edition is the significant presence of female directors. Of the 22 films in the official competition section, 13 are directed by women, representing nearly 60% of the selected works. This achievement reflects the festival’s commitment to diversity and gender equality in the film industry.
Iconic Festival Venues
The festival takes place in several emblematic locations in Málaga:
- Teatro Cervantes: Inaugurated in 1870, this historic theater is the heart of the festival, hosting the opening and closing galas, as well as the main screenings of the official section.
- Teatro Echegaray: This venue hosts documentary and short film screenings, providing a platform for alternative and emerging formats.
- Cine Albéniz: A classic cinema that houses various sections of the festival, including special screenings and meetings with filmmakers.
